Better late than never

Midnight Movies were a band not to be missed live. Lead singer Gena Olivier, with a voice like butter, also manned the drums as if it was second nature.  They regrouped in 2007, changed around the line up, and lost my attention. I like to pretend that their 2003 release "Strange Design" was their first and last. I also have a theory that Bat for Lashes completely ripped Gena off...you be the judge.

Good morning, beautiful

 I have been a fan of Songs: Ohia (and its singer Jason Molina) for some time now.  Crippling vocals and a devastating melody make each and every one of his songs a prize. He re-named the band Magnolia Electric Co in 2003, and with that came the decline (in my humble opinion). Don't get me wrong, there are a few gems on their 2004 release "Pyramid Electric Co", but seems to me the soul just ain't the same.

The Boys Kesher

Somewhere between These New Puritains and The Rapture, you'll find Adam Kesher. Yes, that's a lot of high pitched, forceful sound. But, it works. And if you don't believe me just check out their video for "Gravy Train". Oh, did I mention they are french? That makes them extra hot in my book.

Finally! After more than a year of waiting I finally have the chance to see the one and only Zola Jesus perform live. If you're in LA, head out to Skybar next saturday 2/26/11 to catch a glimpse of my beloved. Actually, dont. The less the merrier.
